Thoughts and Ideas

( What is guidance from Allah? Asking guidance from Allah )

There are moments in a person’s life where he / she feels amazed at how an idea / inspiration brings unexpected and fulfilling result in their life. One doesn’t plan these paths but are rather set on it by Allah’s infinite power. His control over the universe and everything that resides within it, plays a role in guiding a person towards their destination. So, how does that moment feel like? The one which is completely unprecedented yet enriching. How does it feel recollecting those moments when Allah was in complete control over our life even when we weren’t? What about terms like coincidence and luck? How does it happen?

With Him are the keys of the Unseen. No one knows them but He. He knows what is in the land and the sea. No leaf ever falls but that He knows about it, and there is no grain in the dark layers of the earth, or anything fresh or dry that is not recorded in a manifest book. (Surah Al Anam, Verse 59)

I personally do not believe in coincidence or luck. For me, everything is Allah’s perfect plan. Every positive idea, plan, analysis, speculation and an optimistic outcome as a result of it, is from Allah (swt). For example, few months back I enrolled for a designing course. I wasn’t sure why I was taking the course. It felt like a spur of the moment kind of a decision, and I had the time to invest in something meaningful. Little did I know that this desire to learn the art of designing was going to be of great help for what I was about to start. A month into the course and I started designing this blog. I had no idea that learning some editing skills will go a long way in making this blog page more inviting. Subhan Allah.

Throughout history, numerous inventions and discoveries have taken place. Scientists often credit man or nature for these creations. However, people with faith know for sure that if Allah is aware of everything – past, present and future – then He is the one who guided man towards these understandings. After all, He is the one to create man and his grey matter which surprises the world time and again. From the trivial idea that brings great result in the lives of many to those inventions that changed the face of this earth, He has guided the human race to it all. From the beginning of an idea to its execution and till its final outcome, He is with a person / people through all of it. There is not a moment which goes by without His guidance.

One such story of Allah’s constant guidance, is the story of Musa (AS)’s mother. It was Allah (swt) who inspired her to place him in the basket. It was Allah (swt) who gave her the guidance that she should instruct his sister to follow the basket. It was Allah (swt) who promised great result for Musa (AS) and it was Allah alone who made it happen. This is Allah’s love for each one of his slaves. Every now and then people narrate their stories about how they feel Allah’s guidance has helped them to either understand Islam or choose the right career or choose the right spouse or randomly make the right decision.

“And We inspired the mother of Moses saying, suckle him, but when you fear for him, then cast him into the river and fear not, nor grieve.  Verily! We shall bring him back to you and shall make him one of (Our) Messengers.” (Surah Al Qasas, Verse 7)

But are all thoughts from Allah (swt)? All positive ones are from Allah (swt) while those that pull us towards negativity are from ‘shaitan’. The best way to decide, is to gain knowledge of Quran and study the sunnah of our Prophet (Peace and blessings be upon him). This is absolutely important and the best way to combat whispers from the devil.

Simultaneously, perfecting our prayers and seeking guidance through supplication and ‘dhikr’ is yet another way of channelizing our mind towards positive thinking. To understand that everything that has happened in a person’s life was always meant to be, negates all doubts. It also answers the question of ‘why me?’. It gives a person the ultimate confidence that if Allah is in control and he / she is doing everything to please Him, then nothing can go wrong. It reassures that the ultimate success will come when Allah has written it for that person.

“…And whosoever fears God and keeps his duty to Him, He will make a way for him to get out (from every difficulty).  And He will provide him from (sources) he never could imagine. And whosoever puts his trust in God, then He will suffice him. Verily, God will accomplish his purpose. Indeed, God has set a measure for all things.” (Surah At Talaq, Verse 2-3)
