[And it will be said to them], “Indeed, this (Jannah) is for you a reward, and your effort has been appreciated.” (Surah Al Insan, Verse 22)
The idea was to buy a handbag. The requirement was simple but a woman’s planning before buying what she wants is always extensive. The shape, size, colour, specific number of compartments – all is taken into account. Such was my case too. I had been thinking for days about how my next ‘holder of adequate requirements’ was going to be. It made me realise how humans plan and try to customise Allah’s blessings to suite their needs.
Now, this was only a handbag so the efforts were minimal. But what if it was something big – Like a house.
As reported by Umm Habibah (R.A) Allah’s Messenger (Peace and Blessing be Upon him) said: “A house will be built in Heaven for one who prays 12 Sunnat Rak’aat in a day and evening as follows:
4 Rak’aat before and 2 after the Dhuhr Prayer, 2 after the Maghrib Prayer, 2 after the Ishaa’ Prayer and 2 before the Fajr Prayer.” (At Tirmizi)
Across cultures and continents, the joy of owning a house is alike. As an individual, it is always exciting to own your own space and it is a celebration which is shared by all, family and friends. What I see is that, everyone has their own unique style, which they incorporate into the décor of their house. It emits the vibe of people who live in it. Some homes are elegant, some are fancy, some cosy and all welcoming. The colours, design, and efforts taken by every individual to make a space home is immeasurable.
Even though this life is short, the resources poured into it’s settlement is immense, all this so that every detail falls in place perfectly. I can’t help but think how much efforts should go into preparing the house of the hereafter – the permanent abode of every individual. Doesn’t that need explicit detailing ? In this world, even a billionaire who has everything he wishes for has to meet death and leave everything behind. Shouldn’t one be more concerned about his/her eternal house, and work towards it.
Narrated Abu Umamah (R.A) the Prophet (PBUH) said: “I am a guarantor for a house on the outskirts of Paradise for whosoever leaves off arguing, even if he is in the right; and a house in the center of Paradise for whosoever abandons falsehood, even when joking; and a house in the upper-most part of Paradise for whosoever makes his character good.” (Abu Dawud, hadith 4800)
If I picture a house – maybe worth a million here on earth and compare it to the one in Jannah (Heaven) – there is absolutely no comparison. Subhan Allah. All aspects of this life cannot fall in place at the same time. Allah (swt) has divided his blessings as per the time set for us to receive it, in this life. We never get everything at once. It all takes time and slow and steady things fall into place. But that is not the case with Jannah. There a person will have everything at once and those blessings will remain with them forever. They can also improvise it, if that is what they wishes for.
Some aspects of that house in Jannah has already been revealed to us in the Quran –
- Every room there, will have seventy thousand dinning sheets. On every dinning sheet 70,000 types of foods will be served.
- Dishes and Goblets of Gold and silver
- Adorned Couches, lined cushions and rich carpets.
- Food and Fruits available at our reach
- Taste enhances with every meal
- Eternal young servants at service all the time
- Companions of Equal age, company of people who love each other
- Beds made of aquamarine, pearls, and rubies
- Clothing will be very fine, delicate, weightless, having different colours. These dresses will never become old, never be dirty and will never tear.
- No one gets sick or old so, the joy of having these blessings never end.
All this and more for a little sacrifice, patience and trust in Allah’s perfect plan. That house in Jannah is just a few years away. So, how well is the preparation being done ?
رَبِّ ابْنِ لِي عِندَكَ بَيْتًا فِي الْجَنَّةِ
‘My Lord! Build for me a home near You in Paradise’
(Surah At-Tahrim, Verse 11)
